The diagnostic and treatment concepts of traditional Chinese medicine

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) holds that the human body is closely related to the natural environment. Different seasons, natural environments, climates, and geographical conditions all have a significant impact on the human body. When treating diseases, TCM comprehensively considers factors such as the patient's constitution, environment, and emotions to formulate personalized treatment plans. TCM views the human body as an organic whole, where various parts are interconnected and interact with each other. A lesion in a certain part is also related to the whole body. In treatment, TCM examines the patient's physical condition from a holistic perspective, rather than merely focusing on the local symptoms of the disease. TCM collects disease information through the four diagnostic methods: inspection, auscultation and olfaction, inquiry, and palpation. Inspection involves observing the patient's spirit, complexion, and physical form; auscultation and olfaction distinguish the patient's voice and body odor; inquiry aims to understand the onset, development, and treatment history of the disease; and palpation examines the patient's pulse and skin. These four diagnostic methods complement each other and together form the basic methods for TCM to diagnose diseases. TCM conducts syndrome differentiation and analysis based on the patient's specific condition to identify the cause, location, nature, and tendency of the disease, and then formulates corresponding treatment principles and methods. This treatment approach emphasizes personalized treatment, that is, formulating the most suitable treatment plan according to each patient's specific situation. TCM emphasizes the idea of preventing diseases before they occur, that is, preventing diseases by adjusting lifestyle and enhancing physical fitness. TCM recommends maintaining a regular daily routine, arranging a reasonable diet, participating in appropriate physical exercises, and keeping a peaceful mind, which are all important factors for maintaining good health. In treatment, TCM adheres to the principle of combining holistic regulation with individualized treatment. By comprehensively using various treatment methods such as Chinese herbal medicine, acupuncture, and tuina (Chinese massage), TCM can comprehensively regulate the patient's physical condition and restore the balance of yin and yang as well as the smooth flow of qi and blood in the human body.
